Description:

The S-1 is a highly unique all laser-cut wood canard slope sailplane.

In the air, the S-1 is a real pleasure to fly. In light winds, the S-1 is smooth and graceful. In heavy winds the S-1 shows its true colors, with a wide speed range, and smooth aerobatic performance. The ample control surfaces allows the pilot to tune the S-1's performance from graceful to agressive

The S-1 is designed with a number of very unique features, such as a hatch that spans almost the entire upper surface of the fuselage allowing easy access to all radio gear, the foreplane pin block, and ballast mount. The easy access ballast mount is located just under the hatch and directly over the center of gravity, where the optional 2.3 oz brass ballast slug can increase wing loading by as much as 17% quickly improving the heavy wind performance.

The manual for the S-1 features high quality CAD renderings of each step in the building process and the parts are laser cut to fit together like a jigsaw puzzle making assembly a breeze even for the novice builder!

The S-1 was designed with the rugged slopes of Southern California in mind. On a conventional sailplane the tail surfaces are protected on landing as the wing absorbs the energy of impact; canard configurations do not have that luxury. So, the foreplane of the S-1 is designed to first absorb energy, and second to be easily replaceable in the event of damage (the kit is shipped with two foreplane sets). The ability to quickly exchange a damaged foreplane is facilitated with the unique pin block mounting method; simply follow 4 steps:
1.Remove hatch, pin block hold down screw, and pin block
2.Slide the foreplane halves out of the side of the fuselage
3.Slide the new foreplane in place
4.Replace the pin block, hold down screw, and hatch
